Meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Statistical Classifications

Overview
The UN Committee of Experts on International Statistical Classifications is the central coordination body for the work on international statistical classifications that are the responsibility of the Statistics Division, and for the coordination and review of other international statistical classifications that are the responsibility of other international organizations and that have been proposed for adoption by the Statistical Commission.
The meeting of the UNCEISC will take place at the United Nations Headquarters, New York from 25 to 28 October 2022. Background notes will be made available in advance of the meeting, containing key questions for discussion during the meeting. Participants are asked to read the background notes in advance of the meeting. This will ensure a focused discussion during each session.

Session 2: Review of the International Family of Classifications - for decision
- This session will review the organizations and the content of the International Family of Classifications (IFC) also in light of the revision of the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA) which provides the organizing structure for the IFC.

Session 3a: Review of the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC) - for decision
- Session 3a will review of the progress in the revision of ISIC Rev. 4 and discuss the plan for the finalization of the revised ISIC. This session will also discuss the plans for
the implementation of the revised ISIC and the tools to assists countries in its implementation. An update on the revision of regional classifications of activities (e.g. NACE and NAICS)
will also be presented. The Committee is expected to give the provisional endorsement of the revised structure of ISIC Rev. 5 pending the outcome of the global consultation.

Session 9: Modernization of classifications
This session will discuss a number of issues related to the modernization of classifications. This will include for example the discussion on a strategy for revision cycles and dynamic updating processes; the review of the coding system for classifications, code numbering and criteria for defining titles, the development of semantic web, the re-activation of a discussion forum; mechanism for communication on new advances on classifications from Committee's members.
