Overview

The 2024 meeting of the UN Committee of Experts on International Statistical Classifications will take place virtually in two sessions in May and October respectively. The second session of the meeting is scheduled virtually for 29, 31 October and 5 November 2024 from 6.00am to 9.00am New York time. The Committee is expected to review the progress of the Committee's work programme and provide advice for the activities for the rest of the year.

Session 1: ToR for Task Team on Best Practice and International Family of Classification (for decision)

The Committee at its meeting in Oct 2023 proposed revising the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Best Practice Task Team to cover issues with the International Family of Classifications and the implementation of the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA). The ToR for the Task Team on Best Practice and International Family of Classification (TT-BPaIFC) will be presented for discussion and decision.

Session 2: Classification of Statistical Activities (for decision)

The 55th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission recommended the Committee to consider food security and nutrition as a stand-alone statistical data domain in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA) and report back to the Commission. This session will review the proposal from FAO, WHO and UNICEF for adding a new food security and nutrition domain in CSA and discuss the way forward.

The session will provide an update on the revisions of the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) and the International Standard Classification of Occupation (ISCO).

Session 4. International Classification Standard for Trafficking in Persons Administrative Data (ICS-TIP) (for decision)

This session will go through the approval of ICS-TIP is being submitted to the Committee for endorsement as an international statistical classification.
