Purpose:
The purpose is to categorize tourism trips according to modes of transportation used during the trip (see IRTS 2008 para 3.34).
Main Applications:
Collect and organize information on modes of transport of the tourism trips in a standard way that allows for international comparability. Disaggregate the information on visitors (tourists and excursionists) and their trips according to their main mode of transport. Support policy, decision making and analysis. This classification is one of the various ways that trips may be characterized by (others are main purpose, duration, etc...)
