Class Headings describe in very broad terms the nature of the goods or services contained in each class. Explanatory Notes describe in greater detail the types of goods or services contained in a given class. Alphabetical List is the most detailed level and contains specific indications of goods and services.

In order to keep the classification up to date, a new version is published and enters into force annually (since 2013). New editions are published and enter into force usually every five years.
Major Changes:
Changes to versions consist of adding new goods and services to the Alphabetical list, deleting goods and services from the Alphabetical list, and modifying the wording of the indications of goods and services, Class Headings and Explanatory Notes. Each new edition includes all changes and amendments adopted annually during the whole five-year revision period and also includes any transfers of goods or services from one class to another, as well as the creation of any new class.
