Energy data collection at UNSD includes two streams: annual data collection via the Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics (AQES) and monthly data collection via JODI and MBS (Monthly Bulletin of Statistics) Questionnaires.
Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics
The Annual Questionnaire on Energy Statistics (AQES) is part of the regular UNSD data collection programme. It covers statistics such as production, trade, transformation and use of energy products.
The Questionnaire reflects the recommendations brought about by the International Recommendations for Energy Statistics (IRES), which was adopted by the United Nations Statistical Commission in February 2011, inter alia in order to harmonize data collection across international organizations.
UNSD is currently collecting new energy statistics for 2021, but countries are encouraged to enter 2022 data in the Questionnaire even if provisional and subject to revision.

Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI) questionnaires
The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is cooperating with seven international/regional organizations - APEC, Eurostat, GECF, IEA, IEF, OLADE and OPEC - in the Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI), which consists of a decentralized but coordinated monthly data collection of selected oil and gas statistics through the JODI Oil and JODI Gas questionnaires.
