The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), in collaboration with the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) and the International Energy Agency (IEA), are organizing a workshop on the development of integrated energy statistics data compilation programmes suitable for the production of energy balances as well as the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) energy accounts. Such a programme considers all energy information needs to inform national energy policies. The workshop is targeted towards the Member States of ESCWA and AITRS, which are also the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Arab region, as well as countries from the OIC Africa and Asia regions. The workshop will be held in Ankara, Türkiye at SESRIC headquarters, from 10-12 December 2024.
The workshop will a) create awareness on the use of energy statistics, balances and accounts through interactive presentations and hands-on exercises, with a view to applying energy data to inform policymaking, including for SDG implementation; and (b) discuss practical considerations for advancing the production and use of energy statistics, balances and accounts.
