Explanatory note

This class includes manufacture of footwear for all purposes (other than orthopaedic footwear), of any material (other than of asbestos or of textile material lacking applied soles), by any process including moulding. The materials used may be leather, rubber, plastics, textile materials, wood or other materials and the processes applied: cutting and sewing, gumming, moulding or any other process. Also included is the manufacture of gaiters, leggings and similar articles and of parts of footwear such as uppers and parts of uppers, outer and inner soles, etc., of any material. Exclusions: Manufacture of footwear of textile material without applied soles is classified in class 1730 (Manufacture of knitted and crocheted fabrics and articles). Manufacture of footwear of asbestos is classified in class 2699 (Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products n.e.c.). Manufacture of orthopaedic shoes is classified in class 3311 (Manufacture of medical and surgical equipment and orthopaedic appliances).
