Classification Detail

The manufacture of primary non-ferrous metal products, consisting of all processes from smelting, alloying and refining, rolling and drawing and founding and casting; that is, the production of ingots, born and billets; sheets, strips, circles, sections, rods, tubes, pipes and wire rods; castings and extrusions. Included is the production of alumina from bauxite. Establishments the main activity of which is producing uninsulated non-ferrous wire and cable from purchased wire rods are classified in group 3819 (Manufacture of fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment n.e.c.); and establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing insulated wire and cable from purchased wire rods are classified in group 3839 (Manufacture of electrical apparatus and supplies n.e.c.). Founding and casting carried on as part of the fabrication, e.g. stamping, pressing, machining, assembling, of a given class of goods, are included in the group to which the manufacture of the class of products is classified.
