United Nations Statistical Commission

This side event is organized by Community Systems Foundation (CSF), in collaboration with UNSD, to inform delegates about Data for All: an initiative to build an open source, open data platform of tools for monitoring the SDGs.

In the deliberations leading up to the 2030 Agenda, many Member States have shared their concerns about significant capacity gaps in data and analytics to support the objectives of the agenda. National statistical offices have expressed their need for technical support in monitoring the increased volume and added complexity of the SDG indicators, including subnational data disaggregated by a wider spectrum of socio-economic characteristics (income, sex, age, race, ethnicity, migration status, disability and geographic location and other characteristics relevant in national contexts).

This seminar will describe a global SDG monitoring platform, which builds on UNSD's pivotal role within the UN system in support of the overall normative and analytical work required for successful monitoring of the SDGs by national statistical systems. The platform will promote compliance with emerging international statistical standards endorsed by the UN Statistical Commission. These standards will advance the technical processes for data and metadata storage and exchange, particularly in areas where UNSD is providing global leadership and technical support, such as: SDG indicator framework management, SDG indicator metadata, customization of SDG indicators to national priorities, and SDG progress reporting.

All participants of the Statistical Commission are cordially invited. The seminar is also open to policymakers and experts from civil society, academia, and the private sector.
