47th Session (2016)   Side Events

Modernization of National Statistical Organization (NSO) Business Processes using GIS

  • Monday, 7 MAR 2016
  • 1:30 – 2:45pm
  • Conference Room 7 (CB)

Meeting organized by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and ESRI

The side event is organized by Esri, in collaboration with UNSD, to inform delegates as to the value of GIS in the Modernization of NSO Business Processes. It will look at the trends impacting today's NSO as well as discuss challenges faced in modernization and adoption of these new technologies.

This seminar will focus on key business processes and the change over time as well as the changing paradigm of data collection and dissemination.

National statistical systems will be faced with significantly increased data requirements because of wider scope and increased demand from agencies, academia and citizens. In addition - they face key issues such as the increased needs for disaggregation at the sub-national level. This session will also offer an opportunity to discuss how to utilize traditional and innovate ways to better meet data demands, and provide a concrete example of integration of statistical and geospatial information at the national level.

All participants of the forthcoming Statistical Commissions are cordially invited. The seminar is also open to policy makers and experts from civil society, academia and the private sector. An interactive discussion is expected.
