Description: ESCWA is convening this Expert Group Meeting to review and enrich the findings of its report, Making Sense of the Poverty and Inequality Puzzle in Arab Countries . The meeting aims to bring together experts to assess the report’s analytical approach, discuss its policy implications, and ensure that its conclusions reflect diverse perspectives from across the region. The discussion tackles the following themes: 1) Approaches to measuring poverty and inequality using newly proposed benchmarks. 2) Methods for assessing poverty and inequality in data-scarce contexts and in counterfactual scenarios. 3) Meaningful country classifications to support the development of a general framework for poverty-reduction strategies. 4) Case studies of successful policies for reducing different forms of economic poverty, with a focus on best practices, key drivers of transformation, lessons learned, and governance and policy arrangements that can inform South-South dialogue and peer learning. 5) Poverty beyond income deprivation, including the links between income poverty and other multidimensional development challenges, drawing on ESCWA Development Challenges Index.
Description: UNSD, under the Data For Now initiative, organized a workshop on using geospatial and statistical data to produce three SDG 11 indicators: 11.2.1 on convenient access to public transport, 11.3.1 on the ratio of land consumption rate to population growth rate, and 11.7.1 on access to open public spaces. The national partners have identified these indicators in line with Morocco’s national priorities.

It aims to: - Introduce participants to the basic concepts and methods of population projections - Provide hands-on training on data analysis, demographic models and projection techniques - Improve understanding of population projection applications in policy development and planning - Facilitate knowledge-sharing among participants - Explore how to establish microdata files for public use.

Description: This Expert Group Meeting is convened in the framework of the second revision of the United Nations Recommendations on Statistics of International Migration, as requested by the Statistical Commission in its decisions 50/117 (2019) and 52/109 (2021), where the revised conceptual framework for statistics on international migration was endorsed. This meeting will bring together the group of experts on migration statistics, established by the Statistical Commission at its forty-ninth session in 2018. The outcome of this meeting is expected to be reported to the Statistical Commission for discussion.
