Description: Gender equality is a fundamental principle embedded within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is not only a standalone goal (SDG 5Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) but also a crosscutting topic that influences the achievement of the goals of the 2030 development agenda.High qualitytimelycomparableand disaggregated gender data provide the evidence needed to measure progress towards achieving the gender-related SDG goals and targets. Such data are also indispensable in identifying gapsinforming policy decisions and implementing effective interventions. Some countries in Asia and the Pacific have made substantial progress to set up enabling environments for gender data and producing related statistics. Howeverchallenges remain regarding the uptake of gender data either linked to gender data accessibility (opennessdissemination and NSO engagement with partners and stakeholders across the government and beyond) or to data literacy and documentary evidence of data use. According to the UN Women and Paris21 Gender Data Outlook (GDO) Indexmultiple countries in Asia could improve in this regard. In the PacificGDO data are not available for most countries.

Good qualitytimelycomparableand disaggregated gender data provide the evidence needed to measure progress towards achieving the gender-related SDG goals and targets. The 2022 Sustainable Development Goals Progress Report produced by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) shows that while there has been notable improvements in overall data vailability in Asia and the Pacific since the first benchmark report in 2017there are still significant data gaps. Notablyat the subregional levelthe report highlights a lack of sufficient data for Goal 5 (Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls) and thus presents an incomplete picture of anticipated progress towards this goal for the Pacific. Strengthening capacities to produce and use gender statistics is central to closing the gender data gap.
Description: The UN Statistics Division and Statistics Korea (National Statistical Office of the Republic of Korea) have co-organized every year an international seminar regarding important issues on the global statistical agenda since 2010. The seminar has covered a variety of social and economic issues from the perspective of statistics. For example, we have discussed the role of data and statistics in understanding open data and data disaggregation for reaching Sustainable Development Goals; and using big data for official statistics. As we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, the significance of timely data using new data sources and data linkage has increased and it has provided us with new opportunities to the international statistical community for discussing the data stewardship and the data security issues.

Description: The OECD Global Forum on Tourism Statistics, Knowledge and Policies brings together high-level policy makers, statisticians, and leaders from the private sector and civil society to exchange ideas, views and experience on issues high on the global tourism policy agenda. The 2021 edition of the Global Forum is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, on the theme reshaping tourism for a more resilient and sustainable tomorrow. It will provide a unique platform to support tourism recovery and develop a common transformation agenda for the tourism economy, to move to stronger, more sustainable and inclusive models of tourism development in the future. This year’s Global Forum on Tourism will be a hybrid event, online and in-person in Seoul Korea.
