Description: The sixth meeting of the Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information was held on 8 - 9 October 2019 in the Stanley Room of the Midland Hotel, in Manchester, United Kingdom. This was the first face-to-face meeting of its members since the adoption of the Global Statistical Geospatial Framework (GSGF) by UN-GGIM at its ninth session in August 2019. Hosted by the Office for National Statistics and Ordnance Survey of the United Kingdom, the EG-ISGI meeting was attended by 27 participants from: Australia, Canada, Germany, Finland, France, Ireland, Kuwait, Mexico, Namibia, Norway, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America as well as by representatives from the International Cartographic Association, Eurostat, and the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) Secretariat from the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD). The meeting was co-Chaired by Mr. Martin Brady (Australia) and Mr. Sergio Carrera, on behalf of Ms. Paloma Merodio (Mexico). The meeting discussed the adoption of the GSGF, structured a Work Plan for the next 3 years as a basis for the future work of the EG-ISGI, discussed its new modalities, and appointed two new co-Chairs by acclamation, among other pertinent matters.

Description: Objectives of the course: (a) provide an overview of how national ecosystem accounts are constructed, and how they relate to ‘mainstream’ national accounting (e.g. Gross Domestic Product); (b) provide understanding the data and tools used to construct the component parts of the accounts (e.g. spatial and environmental data in GIS for ecosystem extent; ecosystem services evidence; monetary valuation techniques).

Target Audience: National statistical bodies, environment departments and other national public environment bodies involved in constructing national ecosystem accounts. ESTP Trainings are open to non-ESS members if capacity allows after ESS needs are fulfilled.

Description: The Summer School on Migration Data for Policy is a new initiative of IOM’s GMDAC and the University of Bristol, building on the close collaboration already developed through the Worldwide Universities Network-IOM Strategic Alliance. This Summer School on Migration Data for Policy, will be the first migration focused training dedicated to improving the quality, analysis and use of migration data for policy. It will bring together data experts, statisticians and officials, working closely with UNSD and UNPD, to provide dedicated training, education and knowledge exchange. The Summer School will also pioneer the use of migration data training materials developed by IOM’s GMDAC and will introduce participants to the wealth of resources available to support their work with IOM data, government and research data on migration.

Description: This workshop is part of the EU funded Natural Capital Accounting and Ecosystem Service Valuation project. This project is being implemented by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) and aims to assist five partner countries advance the knowledge agenda on environmental and ecosystem accounting. To this end, the project initiate pilot testing of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting Experimental Ecosystem Accounting (SEEA EEA) framework with Brazil, China, Mexico, India and South Africa. The aim of the workshop is to develop sustainable development indicator set based on selected SEEA modules, and to provide an opportunity to discuss how the SEEA relevant indicator set can support the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework. These indicators are expected to be tested as part of the programme of work within the project pilot countries.
