Description: Following the July 2025 inception mission and the Inter-Ministerial Consultation Workshop on Integrated SDG Monitoring and Reporting, ESCAP has been supporting the General Department of Planning (GDP) and the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of Cambodia under the Korea-ESCAP project to strengthen the national SDG data system. A key focus of this collaboration is the review and revision of Cambodia’s SDG indicator (CSDG) framework to improve alignment with global SDG indicators, reduce redundancies, and strengthen metadata quality. This event was conducted to review the findings of the CSDG indicator assessment, support preparations for the 2027 Voluntary National Review (VNR), discuss the development of a sub-decree on statistical standards and data sharing, coordinate the design of a training-of-trainers programme on CSDG indicators, and explore options to enhance SDG data dissemination through the Camstat platform.

Description: This event is a joint initiative by ESCAP and the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office to strengthen Cambodia’s SDG monitoring and reporting systems in alignment with the National Strategic Development Plan (NSDP) 2024–2028 and the Pentagonal Strategy. Recent institutional reforms, including the transition of the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) into an autonomous body, have created an opportunity to enhance coordination and integration across national data systems. Strengthening SDG monitoring has been identified as a national priority following high‑level discussions between the UN and the Ministry of Planning (MOP). The proposed activities include reviewing and refining the Cambodia SDG Framework (CSDG) to better reflect national priorities, mapping and aligning indicators across the CSDG, NSDP, and Pentagonal Strategy, and improving the availability and consistency of metadata. The initiative also aims to strengthen inter‑institutional coordination mechanisms for SDG data governance. Planned engagements include a kickoff meeting with the Inter‑ministerial Working Group on CSDG implementation, national workshops, and ongoing technical support from ESCAP and RCO. A three‑day technical mission is proposed to support these objectives, consisting of internal coordination meetings, a high‑level dialogue to confirm institutional roles and responsibilities, and a stakeholder briefing to present the project plan, review data gaps, and gather feedback. Key national partners include NIS, the Ministry of Planning’s General Department of Planning, and the Office of the Council of Ministers, with support from development partners such as UN agencies and Australia’s DFAT. The initiative will be funded through the Korea–ESCAP Cooperation Fund (KECF).

Description: The Second meeting of the South-East Asia Civil Registration Professionals Network will be held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 14-16 January 2025. The meeting is organized to support and encourage progress towards meeting commitments by governments in Asia and the Pacific to the shared vision as contained in the Ministerial Declaration to “Get Every One in the Picture”. The meeting will facilitate discussions on key CRVS achievements in South-East Asia which will be highlighted at the Third Ministerial Conference on CRVS in Asia and the Pacific (24-26 June 2025) and at the South-East Asia sub-regional forum to be held on 23 June 2025. The discussions will also include a focus on digitalization of registration systems, inclusivity and resilience in civil registration and vital statistics systems as well as the 2025 review of progress in implementing the Regional Action Framework for CRVS in Asia and the Pacific. The Government of Cambodia will host visits to relevant registration facilities and health centres. (The first meeting of the SEA Civil Registrars Network was held in Manila, Philippines on 7-9 February 2023.)
