UN PETs Case Study Repository

Privacy-Enhancing Technologies Task Team
UN Committee of Experts on Big Data and Data Science for Official Statistics

Introduction

This resource presents examples of case studies of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) being leveraged in to enable privacy-preserving analysis of sensitive or confidential data. These are real world examples of PETs applications, showcasing a number of pilot and production-ready implementations deployed by national statistics offices, civil society organisations, and private sector technology companies. The repository includes the 18 case studies that are included in Chapter 3 of the 2023 UN Guide on Privacy-Enhancing Technologies for Official Statistics, and will be expanded in the future. The repository serves as a resource for practitioners in NSOs and other data-rich organisations to learn about the challenges and opportunities of PETs from those who have leveraged them in the real world.
