The United Nations Statistical Commission places a high importance on a host country represented by the National Statistical Office (NSO) as the focal point of the national statistical system. It was established by the HLG-PCCB that hosts are selected on a rotational basis to provide different NSOs with the opportunity to engage in a high-level global dialogue with policy makers, users, other statistical offices and the wider stakeholder community to advocate for the importance of statistics in policy and decision making; strengthen regional data and statistical work, including its development support; and increase the visibility of the host country's work.

The next two Forums are planned in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in China confirmed dates are 24 to 27 April 2023 and Medellín, Colombia provisional dates are 18 to 21 November 2024.
