The United Nations Department of Economics and Social Affairs, through its Statistics Division launches on 01 August 2022 through to 30 April 2023 the call for blogs series. The purpose of this call is to showcase how working with data can support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Relevant to the thematic areas of the UN World Data Forum (UNWDF), blogs should highlight practical solutions and hands-on experiences and contribute to delivering better data for evidence-based policymaking and address pressing issues faced by the global data and statistical communities and more.
A call for blogs was established at the first UNWDF in 2017 and is renewed when every Forum is held. A full archive of past blogs submitted can be found on the website.
Blogs are welcome from the broad data community such as governments, civil society, the private sector, donor and philanthropic bodies, international and regional agencies, the geospatial community, the media, academia and professional bodies.
One post between 700 and 1000 words (max) in length that are relevant to the thematic areas of the UN World Data Forum can be submitted.
Submissions are especially encouraged that demonstrate new approaches, gaps, and achievements for better data in close relation with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and where they make specific reference to the upcoming Forum in Hangzhou between 24 and 27 April 2023.
Step 1. Before the submission of the blog, it is mandatory for the author(s) to first complete the preliminary submission form found at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/UNWDF2023Blog, followed by the Step 2 below.
Step 2. Blog submissions can be done ONLY by email as an attachment to dataforum@un.org. We strongly recommend to not exceed the word max length (1000 words) and submissions should include a photograph of the author(s). Additionally, it is necessary to include hyperlinks to relevant sources and background information rather than using footnotes. Posts should be clear and concise, leaving out excessive jargon and written with a global audience in mind.
Posts should reflect original, unpublished work.
Blogs in any of the official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) are welcomed and encouraged.
Submissions should include submitter email, the title of the post, author(s) name, a photograph of the author(s) and the organization and/or role. Please submit this information through the form: https://tinyurl.com/UNWDF2023Blog before submitting the blog text to dataforum@un.org.
