  • Nur-Sultan, Republic of Kazakhstan
  • 14-15 November 2019

The main element of the development policy of the EAEU is to maintain close and mutually beneficial cooperation with the third countries and integration associations/blocs alike. Intensification of integration processes to promotion sustainable development of the EAEU Member States is accompanied by permanent work on removing any barriers and restrictions that prevent the realization of freedom on movement of goods within trade in goods is needed for monitoring and analysis of the situation.

Methodology of the traditional statistics of international trade is clearly and well described. There are widely acknowledged best practices for collecting qualitative data, and commonly used sources of detailed statistical information on international trade of all countries, including excellent examples of providing access to the mentioned data sources.

However, the world is quickly changing which emerge the new ways of goods production, goods movement and forms of international trade. Digitalization of the mentioned processes reveals new sources and ways of collecting statistical information. At the same time mentioned trends open new opportunities for optimizing work of statistical institutes and reducing the burden on businesses. As a result, the need of understanding a more complex world creates a query for statistics on new data.

The Eurasian Workshop invites to discuss issues mentioned in the above. The outcome of the discussion will form the basis for developing a strategic action plan in the field of international trade statistics that will provide users with up-to-date data relevant to contemporary challenges, outline new opportunities for data collection and create a “road map” for the midterm development of external and mutual trade statistics in the EAEU region.

The Eurasian Economic Commission intends to carry out a large-scale scientific study of the current situation on the field of international trade statistics on foresight technology. The survey of experts, representatives of government institutions and the scientific community will deal with the strengths and weaknesses of existing statistical practices, required but not currently available data, new methods of data collection and future of alternative ways of measuring international trade. The analysis of the collected information will form the basis for this Workshop.
