Seminar on: International Recommendations for Energy Statistics: Achievements and future challenges 21 February 2011, 2:00 - 3:00 pm Venue: DC2 2330 United Nations, New York

The seminar, organized by the United Nations Statistics Division, is intended to provide countries with additional information on the newly revised "International Recommendations for Energy Statistics" (IRES) which are being submitted to the UN Statistical Commission for adoption. The seminar will highlight the achievements that have been accomplished with IRES, its key concepts and recommendations and will discuss the future challenges in energy statistics.

Seminar Programme/Agenda
1.	Introduction to the "International Recommendations for Energy Statistics" and why they are important. Ms. Ilaria DiMatteo, Statistician, United Nations Statistics Division.
2.	The work of the Oslo Group on Energy Statistics and IRES from a country perspective. Mr. Olav Ljones, Assistant Director General, Statistics Norway, and Chair of the Oslo Group on Energy Statistics.
3.	The work of InterEnerStat and IRES from the perspective of an international organization. Ms. Karen Treanton, Head of Energy Balances, Prices and Emissions Section, Energy Statistics Division, International Energy Agency (Secretariat of InterEnerStat).
