Regional Workshop for African Countries

Compilation of Basic Economic Statistics

The United Nations Statistics Division is commencing an initiative to enhance knowledge and practice in the collection and compilation of basic economic statistics in African countries. The regional workshop, which is being organized in cooperation with Statistics South Africa, will be held in Pretoria, South Africa on 23-26 July 2007. It will serve as a form for the initial exchange of views on current practices in the collection of basic economic statistics in Africa. The issues discussed will be utilized for the formulation of provisional recommendations and preparation of a technical report on practices of African countries in basic economic statistics compilation.
