The process for updating maps for the 3rd general population and housing census, which is expected to be undertaken in 2008, is currently taking place in Guinea-Bissau. According to the Coordinator of the census project, Dr. Bessa Victor da Silva, the mapping operations are going on now in the region of Oio, after having been completed in the regions of Bafatá, Gabú, Tombali and Quinara. The next regions will be Cacheu, Biombo, Bolama/Bijagós and SAB. The next step in the preparation of the 3rd census will be the pilot test planned to take place in October this year.
