Las crisis financieras de los años noventa han suscitado un renovado interés en el tratamiento estadístico de los préstamos no redituables. El propósito de la revisión es determinar qué criterio debería aplicarse a la amortización total de un préstamo no redituable y asegurarse de que es compatible con los demás sistemas estadísticos macroeconómicos (Balanza de pagos, finanzas públicas, y estadísticas monetarias y financieras).
