Tokyo’s Annual Statistical Fair Extended to Celebrate WSD

7 October 2010 -- A "Statistics Data and Graph Fair" held yearly for Japan's National Statistics Day (18 October) will be extended this year in order to also celebrate the first ever World Statistics Day (20.10.2010). This exhibition of statistical data and graphs allows visitors to learn about statistics through exhibited data and graphs, and to play interactive games highlighting statistics. To mark WSD, international statistical data, reports as well as promotional materials will be displayed so that visitors can better understand how Official Statistics contribute to the international society.

The 2010 Fair will be held on October 23 and 24 at the event corner of the Shinjuku station, the busiest station in Tokyo with approximately 3.5 million passengers a day. The fair is hosted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and The Statistical Information Institute for Consulting and Analysis, with cooperation by other official statistics producers as well as the UN Information Centre (UNIC).

During the two days of the Fair, UNIC Tokyo will present the WSD promotional video "Honouring Statisticians Globally" subtitled in Japanese on a large display. It will also display Japanese versions of the General Assembly resolution proclaiming World Statistics Day and of the Secretary-General's message for the Day. UNIC Tokyo’s stand will also exhibit UN statistical publications such as the MDG Report 2010.
