Carmelle J. Terborgh, Ph.D.

Biography

Dr. Terborgh has a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Maine (1992), and both a M.A. and a Ph.D. in Geography from State University of New York at Buffalo (1994 and 1999), specializing in geographic information systems (GISs) and cartography. She has over 29 years of experience working with GIS in the areas of urban management, humanitarian affairs, food security, and sustainable resource management.

She joined Esri in 1996 and is the Lead Account Manager of the Nonprofit and Global Organizations team. In 1993, she was a Research Associate at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in Geneva, Switzerland. During 2004-2005, she served as the Senior GeoInformation Consultant in the Information Solutions Group (ISG) team at The World Bank Group in Washington, DC.

Dr. Terborgh served as the Chair of the Societal Impacts Committee and the Industry Advisory Council of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association, and is a former member of the US National Section of the Pan-American Institute for Geography and History (PAIGH).

She is the Committee Chair of Cub Scout Pack 630 and a Past President of the Essex Junction Lions Club in Vermont, and volunteers to provide vision screenings of children, the elderly, and low-income residents in Vermont. Most importantly, she is the mother of two boys.
