Antonietta Mira

Biography

Antonietta Mira is Professor of Statistics, founder and director of the Data Science Lab at Università della Svizzera italiana in Switzerland. She is also a part-time professor at the University of Insubria, Italy and an adjunct professor at the Queensland University of Technology, Australia. She is fellow of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis and visiting fellow of the University of Cambridge (2014 and 2016). She has won awards for excellence in both research and teaching. She is a member of the board of the Swiss Statistical Society, the Office of Federal Statistics, and the board of the Harvard Data Science Review.

Through TV, radio and newspapers she is engaged in the strengthening of the culture of data science to which is dedicated the exhibition "Numbed by Numbers" of which she is scientific director. She is involved in public outreach engagements, both as an organizer and as a speaker.

She is responsible for Switzerland of a European funded project on Covid-19 (10k Euros), principal investigator in several projects of the Swiss National Science Foundation and member of scientific committees representing his areas of expertise: Bayesian statistical models and Monte Carlo simulation algorithms.

Antonietta Mira holds a Ph.D. in Computational Statistics (1998) and a Master in Statistics (1996) from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, USA. She also holds a Ph.D. in Methodological Statistics from the University of Trento (1995) and a degree in Economics, summa cum laude, from the University of Pavia.
