Arab Conference on a Transformative Agenda for Official Statistics

The Arab Conference on a Transformative Agenda for Official Statistics will be held on 5-7 April 2016 on SESRIC premises in Ankara, Turkey.

Co-organized by: Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat), Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS)

The Arab Conference is part of a series of regional conferences on a Transformative Agenda for Official Statistics in support of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. It builds on the outcome of the High-Level Global Conference organized by UNSD and Eurostat in January 2015 in New York and the recognition by the 46th and 47th Sessions of the UN Statistical Commission of the emerging demands for high-quality statistics and the need for modernization of national, regional and international statistical systems.

The Conference aims at taking stock of various international, regional, sub-regional and national initiatives for integrating and modernizing statistical systems, and shaping the global initiative for a Transformative Agenda to the Arab region context.

The Conference is targeting heads of National Statistical Offices, chief statisticians of international and regional organizations, multilateral and bilateral partners, and other stakeholders.

The Conference will be organized in four substantive sessions covering the 5 thematic areas of the Transformative Agenda. It is expected Arab countries to steer this event for which substantial time will be assigned to group discussions and plenary interventions.

يعتبر المؤتمر العربي جزء من سلسلة المؤتمرات الإقليمية حول خطة التحول في مجال الإحصاءات الرسمية لدعم أجندة التنمية المستدامة 2030 . ويبني هذا المؤتمر على نتائج المؤتمر العالمي رفيع المستوى المنظم من طرف شعبة الإحصاء بالأمم المتحدة والمكتب الإحصائي للجماعات الأوروبية في يناير 2015 في نيويورك، كما أنه مبني أيضا على اعتراف الدورتين السادسة والأربعين والسابعة والأربعين للجنة الإحصائية للأمم المتحدة بالطلب المتزايد على الإحصاءات ذات الجودة العالية والحاجة إلى تحديث النظم الإحصائية الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية. ويهدف المؤتمر الى تقييم مختلف المبادرات الدولية والإقليمية ودون الإقليمية والوطنية لدمج وتحديث النظم الإحصائية، وأيضا تشكيل المبادرة العالمية حول خطة التحول في مجال الإحصاءات في سياق المنطقة العربية. ويستهدف المؤتمر رؤساء المكاتب الإحصائية الوطنية وكبار الخبراء الإحصائيين من المنظمات الدولية والإقليمية والشركاء الثنائيين ومتعددي الأطراف وأصحاب المصلحة الآخرين. وسيتم تنظيم المؤتمر في أربع جلسات موضوعية تغطي المجالات المواضيعية الخمسة من خطة التحول. ومن المتوقع أن توجه الدول العربية هذا الحدث الذي سيخصص وقت كبير للنقاشات الجماعية والتدخلات العامة
