Of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic

Announcing Characteristics, Basic Features and Data Structure Surveyed in the Census of Population, Houses and Apartments in 2001

Following shall be announced by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic pursuant to Article 3, Para 3 of the Act No. 165/1998 Coll. on Census of Population, Houses and Apartments in 2001:


Article 1

Characteristics, basic features and data structure surveyed in the census of population, houses and apartments in 2001 (hereinafter referred to as the "Census") shall be announced by this measure.


Article 2

(1) Characteristics of the data on population:

a) address of permanent residence shall mean the name of a district, municipality, street, number of a building where the inhabitant is registered for a permanent residence

b) name and surname form a part of basic identification of an inhabitant

c) type of stay shall mean a characteristics of the stay of an inhabitant in the place of census

d) relationship with the apartment user shall mean a type of family or other connection of an inhabitant to the user of an apartment

e) date of birth shall mean a data on day, month and year of birth of an inhabitant

f) sex shall mean a biological feature of each inhabitant; options are "man or woman"

g) marital status shall mean a legal status; inhabitant may be single, married, divorced or widow/widower

h) date of wedding shall mean a time data on entering into the most recent marriage

i) order of a marriage shall mean a data on number of marriages legally entered into

j) number of children born alive shall include all children born alive during the life of a woman

k) citizenship shall mean a legal relationship of an inhabitant to the State

l) nationality shall mean an inhabitant belonging to a nation or an ethnic group

m) mother language shall mean a language used prevailingly by parents when speaking with an inhabitant during his/her childhood

n) religion shall mean participation in a religious life of one of the churches or relationship to it

o) first permanent residence shall mean a permanent residence of a mother of an inhabitant during his/her birth

p) highest education completed shall mean a highest level of school education completed

q) economic activity shall mean an information on economic position of an inhabitant at a labour market

r) job shall mean a specific activity carried out by an inhabitant or which was carried out by an inhabitant as the last one and which has been or was a source of his/her income accrued from work

s) social group shall be derived from a) the position in the employment, b) type of economic activity and c) type of remuneration provided for the work carried out

t) name and address of an employer or school attended shall mean a specific name of an employer or the school attended and the relevant address

u) frequency of attending a job or school shall mean a time data on frequency of attending a job or a school from the place of permanent residence

v) time spent by daily commuting to a workplace or school shall mean a total time in minutes needed to be registered as coming to a workplace or entering into the school from the moment of leaving the residence

w) locality of a workplace shall mean an address of a workplace or a school


(2) Characteristics of the data on apartments:

a) inhabitancy of an apartment shall demonstrate the status - whether or not the apartment is inhabited permanently

b) legal ground for using it shall mean a legal relationship based on which the apartment is inhabited

c) age of an apartment shall mean a time data derived from the year of construction or reconstruction of an apartment

d) size of an apartment shall indicate a level of living and comprise data on total floor-size of an apartment, floor-size of rooms inhabited, floor-size of a kitchen and number of rooms inhabited,

e) living standard of a household shall be indicated by an equipment of an household of a long-term duration nature

f) locality of an apartment shall mean a position of an apartment in relation to the vicinity

g) technical equipment of an apartment shall mean a qualitative indicator of a living standard.


(3) Characteristics of the data on houses:

a) type of a house shall mean a nature of its identification

b) inhabitancy of a house shall mean whether or not the house is inhabited permanently or whether or not it is just a building without any apartment(s) or the house is not inhabited at all

c) type of ownership shall mean an information on legal ownership of the house

d) number of apartments shall mean number of all apartments inhabited permanently, not inhabited and released temporarily for other purposes

e) number of floors shall mean a number of floors of the house above the ground

f) time period of its construction or reconstruction shall mean a time data on period when a decision of housing inspectors has become legally valid

g) technical equipment of a house shall mean a qualitative indicator of a living standard.



Article 3

Basic features and data structure on population, houses and apartments surveyed during the census in 2001 shall be listed in the Annex.


Article 4

This measure shall become effective on January 15, 2000.
