1 The Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) was adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women, convened by the United Nations in 1995 in Beijing. The Conference focused on 12 areas of concern identified as obstacles to the advancement of women in the world and adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in order to address those concerns. It also urged Governments to regularly collect statistics related to each of those areas, to serve as a basis for monitoring progress and evaluating the impact of policies.
