This publication is part of continuing work in the area of price and quantity statistics undertaken at the request of the Statistical Commission, covering both index numbers and the series of price and quantity data required to compile them. It stems from the discussion of price and quantity comparisons in A System of National Accounts (SNA), the report that was adopted by the Statistical Commission in 1966. Subsequent work has explored both the theoretical properties and the practical problems of the application of such statistics.
