Santiago (Chile) Will Be a Nerve Centre of WSD Activities
27 October 2010 -- The International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) will hold its conference of this year from 20-22 October 2010 in Santiago, Chile. Organized in cooperation with the National Statistics Institute of Chile (INE), the 2010 IAOS Conference on "Official statistics and the Environment" will start on 20 October 2010, on the day when statisticians all over the world are going to celebrate the first- ever World Statistics Day. Also in Santiago, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will mark WSD during a workshop on the "Governance of Statistics Systems" at its headquarters on 19 October with the participation of high-ranking statistics officials from several countries. “ Statistics are crucial in decision-making based on facts and ECLAC is fully committed to supporting the statistics activities in the region aimed at strengthening the capabilities of national statistics systems,” stated ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena.
