President Garcia to Host the Main WSD Event in Peru
14 September 2010 -- The President of Peru, Dr. Alan Garcia Pérez, will
participate in a conference to celebrate World Statistics Day in Lima on 20
October. This event will be held in the Palacio de Gobierno, which is the
President’s residence and centre of Peru’s executive power, and will be
broadcast throughout the country via video-conference. The conference will
be attended by the presidents of Peru’s regional governments, senior
government officials, business associations, international organizations,
universities, research centres, statistical producers, professional
associations and the media. In a letter to the UN Statistics Division, the
Chief of the Peruvian Institute of Statistics, Mr. Renan Quispe Llanos,
explained that "the presence of our highest authorities in the first World
Statistics Day is a sign of Peru’s recognition of statistics as a key
instrument for policy-making."
