A few decades ago countries introduced advancements in technology to the civil registration process by adopting microfilms for the storage and retrieval of vital records. In more recent years there have been numerous efforts to automate virtually every aspect of the civil registration process, and important applications of new technology have been introduced into the civil registration process in both developed and
developing countries This paper presents a brief overview of these developments.
