Head of Data Science Monetization, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du)
Started at the early stages of Big Data, Jose Pablo begins his journey at Pragsis – one of the first consultancy companies to offer Big Data Analytics services in Spain. Thanks to his degrees in Statistics and Computer Science, he merged both worlds as a mix between a Data Scientist and a Data Engineer, developing products for multiple industries: Traveling, Telecom, Banking and Logistics. All this projects where possible using an internal product the team develop called Bidoop, a tool made for Hadoop engineers so the development process would be reduced in complexity and time.
Several years later, Jose Pablo becomes a full Data Scientist working in one of the biggest banks in Spain – BBVA. Along with his team, he developed an algorithm capable of detecting anomalies in customer transactions, including potential frauds in the process. This work enabled the team to create yet another product that predict customers’ expenditure, making it easy for them to manage their financials.
He also worked in collaboration with Sanitas to implement a new way of assessing Health Insurance by using transactional data to discover customers with a “healthy lifestyle”.
In 2015, du participated in the RFP to become the Main Strategic Partner of SmartDubai and they needed an experienced Analyst with knowledge in Big Data Architecture. Driven by this opportunity, Jose Pablo came to Dubai to share his experience with the team.
After a big effort done by his team, du won the bid and he obtained a definitive position at du as Senior Manager of Big Data Architecture Solutions.
His main responsibility was to lead the establishment of a new Big Data Solution that would be used internally for optimizing the performance of du´s network and to generate new Data Science Insights that would help the company understand better its customers. The project was such an international success that Gartner listed it as one of the top 3 solutions for Data Management in 2016.
Since then, the platform led by Jose Pablo has been used widely by the company to provide insights to multiple departments such as Commercial, IT Networks Operations, Digital or ICT Solutions.
In 2018, Jose Pablo is promoted to Director of Data Monetization inside the ICT Solutions department, where he would have the unique opportunity to create and sell Data Products based on SmartDubai Platform’s data.
Today, he leads the Data Science Monetization team, composed by Data Scientists and Analysts that work with both the internal information stored in the Platform he helped to create and the SmartDubai Platform. He deals with many big entities in Dubai like Dubai Tourism, DEWA, Dubai Land Department, etc.
