Mitali Sen works at the International Programs of the U.S. Census Bureau as the Chief of the Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Branch. The main mission of her unit is to support censuses and surveys in low- to mid-income countries by building the capacity of national statistical offices from management to dissemination, as well as creating tools and materials to support statistics. Sen has managed census and survey capacity building projects in over 20 countries across South Asia and Africa.
Prior to joining the U.S. Census Bureau, she managed the first panel of the India Human Development Survey as research faculty at the University of Maryland. She has also worked on reports as a gender specialist with The World Bank and provided her expertise on gender and renewable energy related issues to institutions such as the World Health Organization and the United Nations. Sen received a Master 's degree from Delhi School of Economics, and a doctoral degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland.
