Michael Humber is a Senior Faculty Specialist and Instructor who has been at the University of Maryland since Fall 2007. In 2013, Michael joined the professional track faculty as a Faculty Research Assistant supporting the Group on Earth Observations Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM) initiative and the MODIS Fire projects. He worked on the initial development of the GEOGLAM Crop Monitor 's Crop Assessment Tool, which was awarded a "Special Achievement in GIS" by Esri in 2014. He leads the technical development of the Crop Monitors and the new Earth Observations for Food Security and Agriculture Consortium (EOFSAC) Portal and is involved in several capacity building efforts. His research focuses on crop condition monitoring at multiple spatial resolutions as well as wildfire detection using both pixel-based and object-based approaches.
Michael holds a BS and MPS in Geography and Geospatial Information Sciences, both from the University of Maryland.
