Matthew is a private sector consultant working globally in partnership with the public, private and not-for-profit sectors on improving official statistics and other data systems, Monitoring and Evaluation, and embedding official statistics standards in wider international development. Previously, he led the International Relations functions at the UK’s Office for National Statistics, managed the office of the UK National Statistician, and worked on the production of Regional Statistics and National Accounts in the UK. He has also worked at the statistics division at the UN-ECE and extensively on high-level statistical issues and statistical capacity-building with EU institutions, UN and the OECD. In 2010, he Co-Founded the Online Privacy Foundation, a charitable research organisation working collaboratively with independent experts and academia to combine data science, statistics, and psychology to illuminate the opportunities and risks of online personal data.
