Data Science Officer, Pulse Lab Kampala (UN Global Pulse)
Martin Gordon Mubangizi is Data Science Officer at Pulse Lab Kampala, UN Global Pulse in Kampala, Uganda. UN Global Pulse is a flagship innovation initiative of the United Nations Secretary-General on big data. After spending more than 8 years teaching at Ugandan Universities, where he lectured programming, probability theory, statistics, geographical information systems, software development and databases, Martin joined Pulse Lab Kampala in 2015. Before joining Pulse Lab Kampala, he was a research assistant at Artificial Intelligence and Data Science research Lab at Makerere University. He has worked on several data innovation projects that sought to discover new data sources to inform the monitoring and reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Martin has supported management of a number of projects and engagements with private sector, government, academia and civil societies. Martin is a member of the steering committee for Data Science Africa (DSA) Network and currently the Program Chair for DSA 2018 Abuja. DSA is an initiative to build local capacities in Africa to apply Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Big Data skills to tackle problems that affect their communities.
Martin holds a Master of Computer Applications (MCA) from University of Pune, India and a Bachelor of Science with Education (physics and mathematics) from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda.
