George is a former research scientist at Stanford’s Center on Food Security and the Environment (FSE) and Stanford’s Sustainability and Artificial Intelligence Lab (SUSTAIN), where he worked on monitoring different aspects of agriculture using satellite imagery and machine learning. George’s work includes high-resolution, large-scale estimates of crop yield, crop area, and detection of management practices in several countries in Africa and other regions of the world. He was recently appointed CTO of the silicon-valley startup Atlas AI, a new venture initiated by three Stanford faculty and funded by the Rockefeller Foundation in the spring of 2018. Atlas AI uses cutting-edge technology to revolutionize the way decisions get made in the global development sector; their core mission is to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by providing accurate, timely datasets and actionable insights that can address the needs of the developing world.
