Christophe Duhamel holds a Master 's degree in Quantitative Geography and a M.Phil in Statistical and Thematic Mapping from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, Paris. He started his career in 1985 as Data Processing expert in the cabinet of the French Minister of Cooperation. From 1988 to 1990 he worked on the setting-up of the new department of Statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture of Mozambique. Between 1991 and 1997 he worked in Luxembourg for Eurostat where he contributed to the integration of spatial dimension into the European Statistical System and was in charge of the Eurostat Remote Sensing and Land Use Statistics programme. Then, from 1998 to 2005, he created and managed the Landsis g.e.i.e grouping (European Economic Interest Grouping) in Luxembourg with the French and Finnish Ministries of Agriculture for implementing large-scale European Statistical Cooperation Programmes in the field of agricultural statistics for the benefit of Eastern European Countries joining the European Union. Between 2006 and 2008, as an independent consultant, he worked as evaluator of various statistical programmes then he joined OECD in 2008, as deputy manager of Paris 21. From December 2012 he is the coordinator of the Global Office implementing the Global Strategy to improve agricultural and rural statistics, based in FAO headquarters in Rome.
