The adoption of the Cape Town Global Action Plan (CTGAP) by the United Nations Statistical Commission and endorsement by the General Assembly in its resolution (A/RES/71/313) on work of the Statistical Commission pertaining to 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was a significant step toward addressing the statistical capacity building necessary to achieve the scope and intent of the 2030 Agenda. The plan provides a strategic framework for planning and implementation of interventions and programmes to address statistical capacity building needs.
Over the course of the Forum, a number of sessions will discuss ongoing projects and national experiences related to the implementation of the CTGAP. There will be challenges for the successful implementation of the Plan, including financial constraints faced in achieving fully-modernized statistical systems required to meet the data demands of the 2030 Agenda. During the Forum, numerous initiatives will be launched by a wide range of actors, important commitments will be made at the political level to provide the necessary support, and partnerships will be established, including between private sector entities and governments. In addition, the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Building will present an implementation guide for the CTGAP, including a financial framework.

In this high-level session, panelists will highlight key messages from the three-day Forum and discuss commitments on how to ensure that the data revolution be put in full action and that the necessary support is available at the national and international levels including sufficient funding.

The session will consist of two parts both organized as panels, each with a duration of 45 minutes. Moderated by Mr. Rajesh Mirchandani, UN Foundation

The first part will include a roundtable dialogue among key stakeholders from the different data communities represented at the Forum to highlight the key messages and achievements of the UNWDF, linking these messages to the CTGAP and its implementation.
