The session will focus on disability disaggregated data, opening with a talk on the importance of disaggregation in different contexts and the implications of failing to have information appropriately disaggregated by disability status. Included in the introduction will be a description of the status of disaggregation efforts across of range of policy domains and data sources. The session will also highlight the importance of using a consistent disability indicator across different contexts and data sources. There will follow a presentation focusing on disaggregation of the SDGs by disability status including a summary of country experiences and the work of the IAEG-SDG disaggregation work stream. We will then select one or two country-level examples of where disability disaggregated data is being collected in different contexts and using different data sources, e.g. national data collections, humanitarian activities, development programmes. The session will close with a plenary discussion/Q&A.
The objectives of the session are:
- To highlight the importance of disaggregation by disability status
- To provide information on efficient mechanisms for disaggregating data
- To call for more policy commitment to disaggregation
- To give examples of the uses of disaggregated data in different contexts for SDG measurement, in humanitarian contexts, in development programmes
Target audience are international organisations and governments.
The main expected outcome of the session is to raise awareness of the critical importance of collecting disability disaggregated data by demonstrating to governments and international organisations the appropriate mechanisms for better data collection on disability across different contexts and in effectively measuring the impact of the SDGs.
