SDG 16 stands out among the SDGs as being particularly challenging for NSOs and the international community more broadly. Goal 16 has more tier 3 indicators than any of the other SDGs. New and novel partnerships are therefore critical if the world is going to make any progress on this goal.
This session will focus on current efforts at producing data for SDG 16. It will showcase novel approaches from non-traditional data providers as well as NSO from the south that have already done considerable work on collecting data pertinent to SDG 16. In this we will also highlight the importance of utilizing geospatial information to understand SDG 16 at the local level.
The session will discuss the use of modelling techniques and GIS technology to develop knowledge on SDG 16 targets, especially related to illegal markets, crime and access to justice. It will analyse the benefit of remote sensing methodology to measure illicit markets and the challenges of using modelling techniques to define crime hot spots and justice outcomes.
The objective of the session is to move the discussion on how to measure SDG 16 indicators forward, and to explore novel ways of achieving this.
