CountryData: Using SDMX to exchange MDG data between National Statistical Offices and international agencies

8:30 - 9:45 am
28 February 2013, Thursday
Venue: Conference Room 3 (TNLB)
United Nations, New York

CountryData is a new web based application to enable countries to share their national development indicators with the global user community. Key features of CountryData are;

  • Displays national development indicators and related information each participating country would like to draw the global user community's attention to;
  • Makes use of innovative Statistical Meta-Data eXchange (SDMX) tools to ensure standardized and complete data and metadata exchange between the country and international level for more efficient processing of the data;
  • Compares national and international estimates of development indicators and highlights reasons for their differences where they exist;
  • Provides detailed reference metadata for both national and international datasets to enable users to reach informed decisions on which data are fit for the purpose required.
CountryData has been developed by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) thanks to a project funded by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID). CountryData will initially disseminate data and metadata for the following eleven project countries in Asia and Africa: Burundi, Cambodia, Ghana, Lao PDR, Liberia, Morocco, Rwanda, State of Palestine, Thailand, Uganda and Vietnam.
