Advancing the Global Statistical System- Major work areas and accomplishments
17 February 2009

 Learning Centre:
Environmental - Economic Accounting

23 February 2009, 10:00 - 1:00 pm
Conference Room 3
United Nations, New York

The Learning Center on Environmental-Economic Accounting offers an opportunity for statistical managers to obtain a more in depth understanding of the concepts and methods of environmental-economic accounting. Ample time will be reserved for a question-and-answer session on how to move forward this new and emerging area of statistics and mainstream it within the national statistical system.

The Learning Center will provide a general overview of the basic concepts of environmental-economic accounting and its links to the System of National Accounts, its policy relevance in particular for resource productivity, climate change and natural resource management. It will also present the main issues being addressed as part of the revision process of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA).

The Learning Center will elaborate on the specific modules of the SEEA, in particular on water accounting, energy accounting and material flow accounting. Each session will put to the fore the challenges of implementation of the SEEA ranging from the organization of the institutional architecture to the statistical infrastructure.

Chairperson: Mr. Ivo Havinga, Chief, Economic Statistics Branch, UNSD
