2007 UNSD Calendar of EventsGlobal Forum on Gender Statistics The Global Forum will be the first of a series of international meetings on gender statistics to be held annually with the purpose of promoting the advancement of gender statistics among decision makers and all other user groups. To that end, some of the key objectives of the Forum are to 1) Officially launch the Global Gender Statistics Programme (GGSP) and the Interagency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics (IAEG-GS); 2) Officially launch GenderInfo, an adaptation of DevInfo to present gender based indicators; 3)Review technical developments in selected areas both at the national and international levels and recommend actions for further developments of gender statistics in these areas, including securing high-level commitment for their implementation. The workshop will analyze procedures to obtain vital statistics by maximizing the use of multiple data sources: population censuses, sample surveys and incomplete civil registration. The workshop will also aim at identifying the components of civil registration and vital statistics systems that are in need of improvement, providing a basis for developing technical assistance project to countries in the region. The objectives of the workshop are: (a) to provide an overview of environmental accounting; (b) to present the framework and uses of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounts for Water (SEEAW); and (c) to discuss the requirements for the advancement of the implementation of the SEEAW in the region. Provisional Agenda The Second Meeting of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounting (UNCEEA) will discuss the research agenda for the elevation of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) to an international statistical standard, the project management framework for the revision of the SEEA and coordination of work among various groups as well as the implementation plan for the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEAW) recently adopted by the Statistical Commission as an interim international statistical standard. The Friends of the Chair Group, consisting of 11 countries and four international organizations, was established at the request of the Statistical Commission in 2006 to develop a concept paper on the modalities of the integrated approach to economic statistics. Participants are expected to review policy and other user requirements such as mapping domains of economic statistics to policy needs. National practices and the experience of international organizations in adopting statistical integration frameworks will be discussed, along with the application of economic censuses, business registers and other aspects of data collections programmes. The meeting will cover three key themes and review additional work being undertaken in revising or developing economic or social classifications. The three key themes are: 1) the review of the revision process for the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) and the draft structure for the revised classification; 2) the strategy for the implementation of ISIC and CPC including the development of the ISIC/CPC companion guide, taking into account recommendations made by the Statistical Commission and 3) future work within the Family of International Economic and Social Classifications. Under the last point, the Expert Group will discuss proposals for work on the Classification by Broad Economic Categories, ongoing work in the area of Health Classifications and WHO’s experience in developing a family of health classifications, as well as conceptual and technical aspects of work within the Family. The meeting will review a number of draft chapters of the updated 1993 System of National Accounts (1993 SNA) that are based on the full set of consolidated recommendations completed by the AEG. The review will focus on the substantive comments received during the world-wide consultation on the draft chapters. The meeting will also discuss plans for the implementation of the 1993 SNA Rev. 1 including a provisional list of publications to be prepared by member organizations of the Intersecretariat Working Group on National Accounts between 2007-2012.
