Abstract

Supply and use tables and symmetric input-output tables provide the most detailed picture of an economy and are an integral part of the European System of Accounts. The present Input-Output Manual discusses compilation issues and provides best practices and harmonised solutions. The supply and use and input-output tables provide a detailed analysis of the process of production and the use of goods and services (products) and the income generated in that production. The tables are more complex than most other statistics and their compilation is challenging. But the benefits are large in many ways despite the required efforts. Supply and use tables provide, in addition, a consistent framework for balancing national accounts.
