Abstract

The SNA aims to cover all aspects of all economies necessary to measure economic activity comprehensively and in a manner that will be comparable over time and across countries. This is ambitious and because large, complex economies must be covered as well as smaller and less complex ones, the resulting manual is large and may seem daunting to someone trying to determine how to start compiling the national accounts (NA). In addition, some of the detail is not applicable to small countries without a long tradition of NA compilation. This handbook proposes how to compile a simplified set of NA while adhering to the principles in the 2008 SNA.
