1998/221 Seventh and eighth United Nations Conferences on the
Standardization of Geographical Names
At its 40th plenary meeting, on 23 July 1998, the Economic and
Social Council decided to:
- Endorse the recommendation that the Eighth United Nations Conference
on the Standardization of Geographical Names be convened for eight
working days in the second half of 2002;
- Also endorse the recommendation that the twentieth session of
the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names be convened
during the fourth quarter of 1999;
- Request the Secretary-General to take measures, as appropriate,
to implement the recommendations of the Seventh United Nations
Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names, especially
with regard to the work of the United Nations Group of Experts
on Geographical Names.
1997/221 Fourteenth and Fifteenth United Nations Regional
Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific
At its 34th plenary meeting, on 18 July 1997, the Economic and
Social Council endorsed the following recommendations of the Fourteenth
United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the
Pacific:
- That
the Fifteenth United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference
for Asia and the Pacific should be convened for five working days
in mid-2000, with a primary focus on the continued and strengthened
contribution of surveying, mapping and charting to the implementation
of Agenda 21;
- To request the Secretary-General to take measures, where
appropriate and within available resources, to implement the other
recommendations made by the Fourteenth United Nations Regional
Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific; in particular,
the United Nations should continue to support surveying, mapping
and charting activities in the Asia and Pacific region and, inter
alia, continue, within available resources, to facilitate
the participation of the least developed countries and the small
island developing States of the region.
1997/292 Sixth and Seventh United Nations RegionalCartographic
Conferences for the Americas
At its 39th plenary meeting, on 23 July 1997, the Economic and
Social Council endorsed the following recommendations of the Sixth
United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for the Americas:
- That
the Seventh United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for
the Americas be convened for five days not later than early 2001;
- To request the Secretary-General to promote an ongoing dialogue
between Member States and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation
of the resolutions of the Sixth United Nations Regional Cartographic
Conference for the Americas.
