27th meeting of the Inter-agency and expert group on MDG indicators (IAEG-MDG)

UNSD will convene the 27th meeting of the Interagency and Expert Group on MDG indicators (IAEG-MDG), in New York, from 9 to 10 March 2015. The IAEG-MDG has been responsible for data development, compilation and analysis for the assessment and monitoring of progress towards the MDGs.

The 27th Meeting will discuss preparations for the final global MDG monitoring report and related outputs. During the Meeting, transitioning from the MDGs to the SDGs will also be discussed. As the last meeting of the IAEG-MDG, steps toward the conclusion of the IAEG-MDG work will be addressed.

26th meeting of Inter-agency and expert group meeting on MDG indicators (IAEG-MDG)

The 26th Meeting of Inter-agency and Expert Group on MDG Indicators (IAEG-MDG) will be organised by UNDESA Statistics Division on 7-9 October 2014 in Geneva, and will be hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO). The IAEG-MDG has been responsible for data development, compilation and analysis for the assessment of trends in MDG indicators.

During the meeting, the outcomes of the debates on MDGs at the 69th session of the General Assembly as well as on outcomes of various post-2015 development-related processes and the Sustainable Development Goals will be reviewed. The participants will also discuss how to prepare the 2015 final global MDG report.

Workshop for the UNSD-DfID project on improving the collation, availability and dissemination of national development indicators, including MDGs

The workshop Country Data: Building better dissemination systems for national development indicators, organized by UNSD, will take place from 21 - 25 April in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

This workshop is the fourth in a series of international workshops planned by the UNSD-DFID Project on “Improving the collation, availability and dissemination of national development indicators, including MDGs”. The series of workshops has served to build capacity around implementing the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX) dissemination model promoted by the project.

The fourth workshop will, in particular, look at complex issues and advanced topics in SDMX mapping and exchange. It will also focus on metadata and its use in discrepancy analysis, with a long term view to reducing discrepancies between national and international development data. The training will be led by UNSD and will bring together statistical and IT project focal points from the 11 countries participating in the project.

25th meeting of Inter-agency and expert group on MDG indicators

The 25th Meeting of Inter-agency and Expert Group on MDG Indicators (IAEG-MDGs) will be organised by UN Statistics Division on 26 and 27 February 2014 in New York. The Meeting will discuss how to prepare the 2014 global MDG monitoring report and related outputs. During the Meeting, the outcome of the informal meeting of the Open Working Group on measuring progress and its implication to the IAEG-MDGs will also be reviewed. The meeting will be preceded by a half day meeting by the Task Team on Lessons learnt from MDG monitoring and a half day meeting by the sub-group on Use of Administrative Data for Monitoring Development Goals and Targets on 25 February 2014.

24th meeting of the Inter-agency and expert group on MDG indicators (IAEG-MDG)

UNSD will convene the 24th meeting of IAEG-MDG, in Geneva, Switzerland, from 16 to 19 October 2013. The IAEG-MDG has been responsible for data development, compilation and analysis for the assessment of trends in MDG indicators. The Group includes the UN Secretariat, a number of UN agencies, as well as national experts from statistical offices concerned with the development of data for MDGs. The 24th meeting will review the on-going and planned activities related to MDG monitoring by various UN agencies, and discuss the plans for the upcoming MDG reports. The group will also explore the lessons learned from MDG monitoring at national and regional levels.

Meetings of Inter-agency and expert group on MDG indicators (IAEG-MDG)

The 22nd and 23rd Meetings of Inter-agency and Expert Group on MDG Indicators (IAEG-MDGs) will be organized back to back on 20 and 21 February 2013 in New York. During the meetings, the outcomes of the debates on MDGs at the 67th session of the General Assembly as well as those of the Rio+20, will be reviewed. The participants will also discuss how to prepare the 2013 global MDG report and the work towards the final evaluation of MDGs in 2015, The meeting will be preceded by a half day meeting by the Task Team on Lessons learnt from MDG monitoring on 19 February 2013.

Inter-agency and expert group meeting on MDG indicators

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is organizing an Expert Group Meeting on Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Indicators. The meeting will be held in Geneva from 1 to 2 November 2012, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The main purpose of this Expert Group Meeting is to share experience and lessons learned from the MDG monitoring in the last decade at both national and international levels. In addition, the meeting will discuss different options to exchange data/metadata to update MDG databases and will be an opportunity to identify key areas in which international agencies could provide technical assistance to strengthen MDG-related statistical capacity at the country level.

United Nations national workshop on MDG monitoring: 2015 and beyond

The United Nations Statistics Division is organizing a Workshop on MDG Monitoring: 2015 and beyond, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. The workshop will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 9 to 13 July 2012. It will bring together representatives from national statistical offices, line ministries and international agencies to review recommendations for calculating MDG indicators, reporting MDG data and establishing strategies for dealing with data discrepancies between national and international MDG figures, particularly for hunger, child, maternal and reproductive health indicators. The workshop will also be an opportunity to review lessons learnt from monitoring the MDGs in view of the preparation of the post-2015 development agenda and the related new monitoring framework.

The 2nd international conference on MDG statistics

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the Philippines National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) is organizing an international conference on MDG statistics. The 20th Inter-agency and expert group meeting on MDG indicators

Workshop on MDG monitoring for countries in the Latin America and Caribbean region

Project on national development indicators, including MDGs Kick-off meeting for the African region

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is organizing a meeting to launch the UNSD/DFID project on Improving the Collation, Availability and Dissemination of Development indicators, including MDGs at the UN Gigiri Complex in Nairobi, Kenya, from 18 to 20 October 2010.

The meeting will bring together national experts on developments indicators as well as national data managers from the seven African countries covered by the project (Burundi, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania) to review and discuss the following points:

(a) Aims and objectives of the project and lessons learnt from the pilot phase and the Asian region;

(b) How to improve reporting of development indicators at the country and international level (issues of coordination, availability and frequency of data, agreement on metadata and data discrepancies);

(c) Improving dissemination of development indicators (data dissemination policies, current country data dissemination practices, systems and platform for development indicators);

(d) Next steps of the project.

Expert group meeting on SDMX for MDG indicators

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) is organizing an Expert Group Meeting on Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) for Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Indicators. The meeting will be held in Geneva on 23 October 2009, hosted by the International Labour Organization. The purpose of this Expert Group Meeting is to share experiences on the use of the SDMX standards for the exchange of data and metadata on MDG Indicators. The SDMX is a platform for data and metadata exchange that will greatly facilitate the exchange of MDG data among countries and between countries and international agencies. The event will also be an opportunity to review, with national and international experts, the necessary steps to implement the SDMX platform at the national level, including identifying key areas in which international agencies could provide technical assistance.

Workshop on coordination of reporting mechanisms and data discrepancies in the MDG monitoring

Expert group meeting on Millennium Development Goal indicators
