The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) organized the Regional Meeting whose purpose was to compile and share national experiences in approaches taken to measure the population with disabilities during national censuses of the 2010 round, and to discuss compilation of data on disability for monitoring of Sustainable Development Goals.
Workshop on the Principles and recommendations for a vital statistics system, Revision 3, for South American countries

The United Nations Statistics Division, in coordination with ECLAC, is conducting the Workshop on the Principles and Recommendations for a Vital Statistics System, Revision 3, for South American Countries, from 9-12 November 2015, Santiago, Chile.
This workshop contributes to the initiatives at the global and regional levels to accelerate improvement of civil registration and vital statistics systems. With the view of strengthening technical capacity to contribute to the efforts in improving civil registration and vital statistics systems, the workshop aims to increase the knowledge of government statisticians and civil registration officers about the revised international principles and recommendations for compiling, processing and disseminating vital statistics; and to improve their capability in identifying gaps and challenges in applying international standards to improve their civil registration and vital statistics systems. The workshop will bring together civil registrars and vital statisticians from twelve South American Countries.
Advancing the System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA)

As part of the project “Advancing the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting in pilot countries”, the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Convention of Biological Diversity is working with the National Statistical Office and Ministry of Environment of Chile to develop a National Plan for advancing environmental-economic accounting in the country.
This project aims to support policy decisions in Chile by strengthening the national statistical system and contributing to develop an information system for sustainable development based on comparable environmental-economic accounts, including ecosystem accounts.
UNSD will visit Chile on 13-17 April 2015 to participate in a series of high-level bilateral meetings as well as a high-level general meeting with Chilean officials and other relevant stakeholders, with the objective to obtain high-level endorsement of the National Plan and begin to foster institutional arrangements to implement the SEEA with the active involvement of all relevant agencies.
Regional training workshop on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting in Latin America and the Caribbean

On 13-16 April 2015, representatives from National Statistical Offices, Ministries of Environment and/or other line ministries dealing with forest, biodiversity or other environment-related issues, that have or plan to have programmes on the implementation of the SEEA in countries from Latin America and the Caribbean will meet in Santiago to attend the regional training workshop on the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting.
Representatives from some other pilot countries involved in the project “Advancing the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting in pilot countries”, and well as staff from ECLAC and other international agencies will also attend. The objective of the workshop is to improve the capacity of participants in the implementation of the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting.
The workshop aims:
(i) to help participants acquire knowledge and skills to deepen their understanding of the accounting principles and basic data needs for SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting;
(ii) to facilitate experience sharing among countries in Latin America and the Caribbean; and
(iii) to support countries to set up a strategy and work plan for the implementation of the SEEA Experimental Ecosystem Accounting.
The workshop is organized by UNSD as part of the project on “Advancing the SEEA in Pilot Countries” and will be hosted at ECLAC.
Regional workshop for countries in Latin America and the Caribbean on supporting developing countries measure progress towards achieving a green economy

Regional seminar on census data dissemination and spatial analysis for Latin American countries

The Regional Seminar, which is being organized by UNSD in collaboration with ECLAC and UNFPA, will provide a forum for sharing national practices and experiences in the dissemination and use of census data. The Seminar will aid in taking stock of national capacities and challenges for meeting the increasing requirements of census data users as well as review emerging trends, innovative approaches and technological tools employed in the dissemination of census data. Furthermore, the Seminar is expected to help in identifying good practices and lessons learned in the dissemination and analysis of census data.
United Nations workshop on manufacturing statistics for ECLAC countries

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), is organizing a Workshop on Manufacturing Statistics, scheduled for 15-17 March 2011 in Santiago, Chile. This workshop continues the programme for the development of comprehensive and comparable manufacturing statistics in the Latin American region, initiated 2007.
The main purpose of this workshop is to discuss issues of data processing, including validation and imputation, as well as the compilation of production indices and related topics.

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), is organizing a Workshop on Manufacturing Statistics, scheduled for 1-4 June 2009 in Santiago, Chile. This workshop continues the programme for the development of comprehensive and comparable manufacturing statistics in the Latin American region. Building on topics discussed at previously held workshops, this proposed workshop will in particular focus on the conduct of manufacturing surveys, including the planning and management of surveys, sampling issues, questionnaire design and data collection issues, as well as specific methods and techniques used for capturing small and household units.
Technical workshop on the preparation of water accounts in Latin America

The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), is conducting a technical workshop to assist countries with the implementation of the System of Environmental Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water). The workshop is being hosted by ECLAC in Santiago, Chile and will take place from 1 to 4 June 2009. The workshop has a practical focus and will provide countries with the necessary training to implement the System of Environmental and Economic Accounts for Water (SEEA-Water). The workshop will cover the SEEA-Water standard tables, how they are compiled, and global implementation of the SEEA-Water. Participating countries will share experiences in implementing the SEEA-Water, compile SEEA-Water Standard tables using national data and develop a plan for the implementation of the SEEA-Water in participating countries.
UNSD-UNECLAC regional workshop on census cartography for the 2010 Latin America's census round

The purpose of the Workshop is to highlight the significant additional capabilities of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other geospatial technologies in census mapping activities, including preparation of enumeration, enumeration operations, advanced analysis and dissemination of census data, and how to successfully implement and use these technologies. More specifically, the Workshop will: (1) introduce the definition of national census geography, including criteria and process of enumeration area (EA) delineation, and coding of geographic areas; (2) present an overview on the different stages in the EA-database development, and on GIS-based data analysis and dissemination; (3) focus on the integration of fieldwork in using satellite/aerial imagery and GPS (4) facilitate a dialogue among participants from Member countries on census mapping with GIS, experiences and practices, with a focus on institutional, organizational, financial, capacity building and implementation issues. The first part of the Workshop will be dedicated to a review of the international recommendations on contemporary practices in census cartography and use of (GIS), as well as the new revised “Handbook on Geospatial infrastructure in support of Census Activities”.
